2023-2024 Registration Information

For the 2023-2024 school year, there continues to be higher demand from the community for this type of enrichment program than PUSD has the capacity to enroll. As such, enrollment is now closed.

In the meantime, we wish your family all the best as you seek alternative before/after school care and enrichment programs for your child(ren).  We recommend exploring the YMCA's Childcare Resource Service webpage to be referred to other childcare options that may be available in the community.

2024-2025: New Student ESS Interest

New Student Enrollment for Grades TK-5 for the 2024-2025 school year does not automatically enroll students in the Extended Student Services (ESS) before and/or after school program. A separate application process for ESS is required for all new students.

Effective for the 2024-2025 school year, new applications to the ESS program will be centrally managed by the District Office, Before/After School Department through a single application and interest list. Information on how to apply for ESS for the upcoming school year, will be available on the ESS WEBPAGE starting on January 19, 2024.

Submitting an application for ESS does not guarantee participation in the program. It is anticipated that the demand for the ESS program will exceed the program capacity at most schools. Should a site be determined near capacity for ESS enrollment, a lottery process may be necessary to determine new student placement in the program.

Students in Grades TK-4 participating in the ESS program during the current 2023-2024 school year, will be considered continuing students and will not need to re-apply. Continuing students will receive continuing registration information directly from the ESS Site Supervisor.

Students in Grades TK-4 currently on an ESS waitlist for the program must apply as a new student to the program for the 2024-2025 school year.

New Student Enrollment for ESS Summer 2024 ONLY

We anticipate very limited capacity to enroll new students in the ESS Summer Program in 2024.

Space in the summer program is subject to the availability of staff, transportation, and priority enrollment for continuing students and unduplicated pupils.

To apply for the 2024 summer program, families must complete a separate interest application by completing this INTEREST FORMThe interest list for SUMMER will be open February 5th- March 1st.

If space is available, ESS will notify parents/guardians whether their child(ren) has been accepted to enroll in the summer program or placed on a waitlist by April 1, 2024.
Acceptance into ESS Summer 2024 does not guarantee enrollment in the program for the 2024-25 school year. Parents/guardians must complete the separate application process for new student enrollment in ESS for 2024-25 that will be available online beginning Monday, March 18, 2024, at 9:00 am PST (Pacific Standard Time).
ESS Overview

Mission Statement - "E.S.S. is a bridge between school and home where children are encouraged to learn, create, and explore within their school, community, and world."

Program Overview - This extended-day program expands the excellence of each child's school experience into before and after school. E.S.S. is staffed by highly qualified professionals and trained program assistants. The staff provides for the academic and social needs of children in safe and nurturing environments. There is time, space, encouragement, and support for learning good study habits.

Voluntary Use Program - ESS is a voluntary use program. All PUSD elementary schools have an Extended Student Services program on their campus. Our organization works diligently to accommodate and serve working families in need of before and after school care. A student's enrollment at an elementary school does not guarantee them ESS enrollment. As a growing organization, each ESS site may experience limitations that factor into the enrollment capacity and may prohibit the acceptance of additional students at any given time.

Program History - The E.S.S. program began in 1980 and is now offered in every elementary school in the Poway Unified School District. All children who attend elementary school in the District are eligible to enroll.

Program Activities - Our program is geared toward expanding each child's world through arts & crafts projects, science activities, reading and language arts reinforcement, and math concept development. Our program reinforces the social, motor, and academic skills children learn in the classroom.

Hours - E.S.S. is open daily, Monday - Friday, from 6:30 am to 8:30 am and 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm during the school year.
