2026-2027 Level 1 Volunteer Application

Please read carefully. Some requirements have changed for the 2026-2027 school year.

Visitors

If you will only be coming to campus occasionally, you do not need to complete a volunteer application.

Examples include:

• Attending a classroom party
• Reading to a class one time
• Helping at Field Day
• Visiting campus for a special event

When you arrive, sign in as a visitor and present a valid government-issued photo ID. Military IDs cannot be accepted.

You must bring your ID each time you visit campus.

Level 1 Volunteers

You must complete a Level 1 volunteer application if you:

• Volunteer on campus regularly
• Support classroom activities on an ongoing basis
• Attend a field trip

Examples include:

• Practicing flashcards with students
• Working with small groups
• Helping with Friday folders
• Providing regular classroom support

Volunteer clearance must be renewed every school year.

TB Clearance Requirements

All volunteers must submit a completed California School Employee Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Assessment Questionnaire.

If required by the questionnaire results, a chest X-ray clearance report must also be submitted.

Accepted Documents

Documents We Cannot Accept

❌ Physician notes

❌ Patient portal screenshots

❌ Blood test results without the required questionnaire

❌ Other forms of TB verification

The questionnaire is available from:

• Your physician's office
• The district volunteer website

Please note that school office staff cannot provide copies of these forms.

Although the TB Risk Assessment is valid for four years, a copy must be submitted every year with your Level 1 volunteer application. We recommend keeping a copy for future use.

Photo ID Requirement

In addition to the ID photo taken during the application process, volunteers must upload a copy of a valid government-issued photo ID (PDF or image file).

Military IDs cannot be accepted.

Please make sure:

• Your ID is current and valid.
• The name on your application exactly matches the name on your ID.

Applications with mismatched names cannot be approved until the information is corrected.

Required Training for Level 1 Volunteers

Beginning in 2026-2027, all Level 1 volunteers must complete:

AB 1913 - A Tool to Protect Our School Community (previously called Mandated Reporter Training)

A certificate showing completion within the last 90 days must be uploaded with the volunteer application.

PUSD Employees

If you are also a PUSD employee, you may submit your current school-year AB 1913 training certificate. You do not need to complete the training a second time.

Bring Your ID to Campus

All visitors and volunteers must show a valid photo ID when signing in at the school office.

Please bring your ID every time you come to campus.

Stay Connected

We will share volunteer opportunities throughout the school year. Teachers will also let families know about ways to support the classroom and upcoming field trip needs.

Level 2 Volunteer Clearance

New Level 2 Volunteers

(For volunteers who were not approved as Level 2 volunteers during the previous school year)

Before applying for Level 2 clearance, please check with your child's teacher to see if it is needed. Not all volunteers require Level 2 clearance.

Typically, schools aim to have 3-4 Level 2 volunteers per classroom to support classroom activities and field trips.

Steps to Become a Level 2 Volunteer

1. Complete the Level 1 volunteer application.
2. Obtain a Level 2 Authorization Form from the school office.
3. Have the form signed by the school site.
4. Bring the signed form to the District Office.
5. Present a photo ID.
6. Complete the required Livescan fingerprinting process.

Livescan Fingerprinting

Livescan checks fingerprints through the:

• California Department of Justice (CA DOJ)
• Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)

Current fees:

• $20 cash
• $22 credit/debit card

Fingerprinting is required for all new Level 2 volunteers.

The school will notify you when your clearance has been approved.

Returning Level 2 Volunteers

If you were an approved Level 2 volunteer during the 2025-2026 school year:

• Complete the Level 1 volunteer application.
• Let the school office know you would like your Level 2 clearance reinstated.

You do not need to repeat the fingerprinting process.

Lapse in Service

If you skipped an entire school year without renewing your volunteer status, you must complete the Level 2 application process again.

Example:

• Approved in 2024-2025 ✅
• Did not renew or volunteer in 2025-2026 ❌

In this situation, a new Level 2 application and clearance process will be required.
